Another cheap and easy lamp to make, ambient
lighting will make you home look so much more appealing (and the
lamp will make it look pretty cool too).
This will take a
little time but the results are worth
it
Masking
tape, lamp fitting, expoy glue, sandpaper, legs for
lamp (I used mingle coctail sticks from ikea, but removed the
‘handle’), grater (I used one from ikea), CD cover
Craft Knife, Pliers, Blue Tak
Before
Beginning:
Make sure the grater you buy will
allow you to change the bulb from the top (ie can you
fit a light bulb through the handle?)
Step
1:
Mark off about 20mm at the top of
whatever you are going to use for your legs so that when
you glue them they will be even.
Step
2:
Roughen up all surfaces to be glued. (Inside corners of the grater
and above the markers on your legs.
Step
3: Place the grater on the top cd
cover and cut grooves into the cover around the grater. Now extend
the ‘box’ of grooves to the edge of the cd cover. You should be able
to snap off the outer pieces now to leave you with a base.
Step
4: Now cut the corners off of the
base so that there will be space for the legs, cut one corner larger
than the rest so that the cable for the light will fit through the
opening of the base.
Step
5: Glue
the lamp fitting onto the base
Step
6:
Mix up
a small amount of epoxy and glue the first leg onto the grater, you
can use some blu tak to keep it in place. Repeat for the other legs,
but wait
for each leg to dry before proceeding.
Step
7:
glue the base onto the bottom of the
grater
